The Week Ahead in Brixton - 15th June 2025
Your essential guide to what's happening locally this week.
Walk Through History
Brixton's fascinating past comes alive through two exceptional heritage experiences this week. Today, the Brixton Society's heritage walk takes you off the beaten track through Atlantic Road, Railton Road, and the Moorlands Estate. It’s a chance to discover the hidden stories and overlooked corners that have shaped our community.
For those who prefer their history served with a comfortable seat and a cup of tea, the Brixton Society is also organising a talk on Thursday 19th: "Railton Road: Lifeline of Brixton and Beyond". This talk promises to reveal why this particular street has played such a pivotal role in Brixton's development and character.
Have Fun with the Family
Today, West Norwood Leisure Centre is running a special Father's Day celebration. This special event offers a perfect opportunity for dads and their little ones to bond over activities designed to get everyone moving and laughing together. It's a refreshing alternative to the typical restaurant booking, and a great way for the kids and dad to have some quality time while staying active.
Honour the Past
In a particularly poignant event on Tuesday 17th, Lambeth is hosting "Remembering the Windrush Generation" with speakers Mel Pennant and Lisa Smith. As we approach the 77th anniversary of the Empire Windrush's arrival, this talk offers crucial perspectives on the experiences and contributions of those who helped build modern Britain. It's an essential event for anyone wanting to understand the deep roots of Brixton's Caribbean community and their ongoing legacy.
Embrace the Music
Two exciting music events happening in Brixton this week. Apex Six brings their Premier Battles to Hootananny on Saturday 21st, promising an electrifying night of competitive performance that showcases some of the best emerging talent in the music scene.
Later in the evening, over at Phonox, the FS Green Residency continues into its third and penultimate week.
Share Your Pride
June is Pride Month - and in the spirit of Pride and Brixton’s rich history of supporting the LGBTQ+ community, Lambeth Archives has opened an exhibition called “Share Your Pride” to commemorate the community’s rich history in the Brixton community. The free exhibit showcases decades of Lambeth Pride march photos, dating back to the 1980s. The exhibit runs until 30th June.
Express Yourself
As part of their Uprising Festival which runs until October, Brixton House are running a somatic movement workshop on Saturday 18th as part of their Revolution School, which focuses on practices that act as keys to unlock and connect the body, mind, and spirit. They’re operating this as a “Pay What You Feel” event, with the session running for two hours.
We hope you have an amazing week - see you next Sunday for more of the same!
